The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is a formula used to calculate the amount of energy used however at rest. It tells you how many calories you burn a day however not doing any sort of strenuous activity. Basically this tells you how many calories your body burns to simply breathe, eat & do other non-strenuous activities. The Active Metabolic Rate (AMR) calculates the calories you burn each day to support your activity level. After you calculate your AMR, add this to your BMR for the total number of calories that you need to consume a day to maintain your current weight. If you eat less then you are burning, you will start to lose weight. If you eat more than you are burning, you will gain weight.
Calories you eat = Calories you burn = Maintain your weight
Calories you eat > Calories you burn = Gain weight
Calories you eat < Calories you burn = Lose weight
